Hello everyone🙏
I’m sure many of you are curious about how I craft these handmade cat eyes.
The short video above gives a brief glimpse into the process. This is one of the most challenging aspects of my work, as it defines the spirit and soul of each piece. The eyes are created using tiny glass hemispheres, ranging from 8-12mm in diameter. As you may know, a cat's eye color is influenced by the amount of melanin in its iris—the more melanin present, the darker the eyes. My task is to carefully observe and precisely match the cat's eye color by mixing and adjusting pigments to replicate the exact hue. I then paint this onto paper, ensuring the layers and textures maintain the transparency and depth of real eyes.
Another crucial detail is the pupil dilation. Cats, being nocturnal hunters, have the unique ability to expand their pupils in low light and narrow them into thin slits under bright conditions. This feature not only adds to their charm but also makes their expressions more vivid and emotive. Who can resist the allure of those big, shining eyes? ☺️
Now, moving on to the next step: I meticulously draw the pupil shape on the back of the 8-12mm glass hemisphere. Achieving perfect precision is extremely difficult because the curvature of the hemisphere magnifies the image significantly. Even the tiniest mistake can be greatly exaggerated, often requiring me to start over (there have been times when I’ve spent nearly a week just to get a pair of eyes right).
Once the colors on the paper and the pupils on the glass are ready, I combine them to create the final eyes. However, like everything in life, balance and harmony are key. There are times when I’ve crafted a beautiful, intricate pair of eyes, only to find that once they’re placed into the artwork, they don’t quite fit. Maybe the color is slightly off compared to the fur, or the expression isn’t quite right. In those cases, I go back to the beginning, adjusting and refining.
The process always starts with stepping back, taking a moment, and observing...
